Origins
General Motors designer Harley Earl is credited with convincing GM to build a two-seat sports car for the American market. Launched in 1953, the resulting Chevrolet Corvette quickly earned the mantle of “America’s Sports Car”.
1956 was the second year of production for the V8 models. All-new stand-alone styling with high-set fenders and sculptured side panels, improved convertible top, real glass roll up windows and an optional hardtop set the Corvette apart.
The engine displacement was 265 cubic inches and only 3,467 examples were built, making this the 3rd lowest volume year in Corvette’s long history.
This Car
An exceptional vehicle, this rare machine impresses immediately. Call it the classic fifties American dream machine – fully and expertly restored to the tiniest detail, nothing has been spared in bringing this beauty back to showroom precision.
Finished in catalogue-listed Venetian Red with White coves, cloth soft top and a sumptuous interior, this factory-correct 265ci (210 HP) good looker features 4-speed manual stick shift, twin tail pipes exiting through the rear bumpers, optional period bolt-on wire wheels and of course the simple, elegant, unmistakably Corvette grille and trim cues.
The interior best expresses the individual character and styling optimism of the era; its glorious 1956 dash and instrument cluster something to behold.
A joy to drive, a tactile connection to a golden era of carefree sports car motoring, this car is a rolling work of art.
1956 Corvettes, especially in this amazing condition, are hard to find. Space-age design and an innate ‘cool’ make this particular Corvette a collectable to treasure.
